The squish actually brought a ton of people back into the twink scene. For example, in the 30-39 bracket, I am in an in game community with about ~150 members currently and we add about 5-10 a week (we started at idk, 50 or so in pre patch). We schedule twink v twink war games on Friday nights and hold arena tournaments every month for gold/prizes.

There is some pve twinking at 50 in the form of group/solo endgame scenarios called vision of nzoth. I recently speed ran 25 “5-mask” vision runs in a week to add sockets to all of my mages items.
